Briefing

Located at the third branch line of the Alishan Forest Railway, Shenmu Station is renowned for the majestic 3,000-year-old sacred tree that once stood beside its tracks. Unfortunately, the sacred tree met a tragic fate on June 7, 1956, when it was struck by lightning and engulfed in flames. Subsequently, on July 1, 1997, it started posing a perilous tilt, and the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency made the difficult decision to fall the sacred tree on June 29, 1998. Today, visitors can still see the remnants of the sacred tree by following a nearby trail leading from Shenmu Station.

The renovated Shenmu Station, featuring a graceful wooden structure, was completed in 2022. To preserve spaces for the precious red cypress, avoidance measures guided by ecological evaluations were meticulously applied. Through careful slope maintenance, the old platform was extended outward, harmonizing with the natural terrain, which provides a captivating scenic viewpoint while serving its original purpose. Visitors can intimately observe the serene waterfall and enjoy the optimal vantage point for admiring Tashan Mountain from afar.
