For those who plan to go to Alishan on New Year's Day (2021) to watch the sunrise, the ticket of AFR Zhushan Line opens for group reservation from 9 am on December 10 (2020), and for individual online reservation from 6 am on December 18 (2020). It is possible to choose between one-way and round-trip tickets.
Extra runs on Zhushan Line
In order to celebrate the arrival of New Year's Day in 2021, Zhushan Line will have 14 extra runs from 2:10 AM on that day to meet the needs of a large number of passengers. All trains can be reserved in advance online this year. When reserving tickets, passengers can choose which train they want to take, which reduces the burden of queuing to buy tickets. It is also convenient to arrange the itinerary in advance. After completing reservation and payment, passengers can pick up their tickets at the AFR stations or 7-11 convenience stores in Taiwan before departure time. We also retain a number of tickets for purchase on site. AFR provides considerate services to let travelers enjoy the world-famous sunrise scenery in Alishan!
Both group and individual reservation are possible
In order to divert the crowds of ticket purchases, AFR allows prior reservation for groups more than 30 people by call. The departure time of 10 extra trains allowing group reservation range from 2:10 AM to 5:00 AM. Each train opens up to 100 tickets for group reservation. Call Alishan Station for inquiry and reservation (05-2679200).
Individual online reservation will be available from 6 AM on December 18. The maximum capacity on the New Year's Day would be 1,400 individual tickets. The departure time of 14 trains ranges from 2:10 AM to 6:20 AM. Check the following site for reservation: https://afrts.forest.gov.tw.
In addition, at least 2,500 tickets are retained for sale at Alishan Station from 1 PM to 5 PM on December 31 and from 1:40 AM on New Year's Day. Up to 10 tickets can be sold to each person.
The sunrise time on 2021 New Year's Day is around 7:05 AM. The departure time of Zhushan Line from Duigaoyue Station back to Alishan Station is divided into Slot A (7:15 to 8:05 AM) and Slot B (8:25 to 9:00 AM). There are 4 trains departing per slot. Passengers can choose which slot they would like to return during ticket purchase.
Three sunrise-watching points are all splendid
Due to the reconstruction of Zhushan Station, the Zhushan Line Sunrise Train has been diverted to terminate at Duigaoyue Station on October 14 (2020). Passengers are recommended to go to three scenic spots to view the sunrise after getting off the train. The first is Duigaoyue Observation Deck, which is exactly next to the station. The view here is wide and the scenery of sunrise is unique. Sunrise Impression Concerts were often held here previously.
Tourists can also take a 20-minute-long walk to Zhushan Observation Deck from Duigaoyue Station. There are food stands in the surrounding area. The nearby forest includes red cypresses, cypresses, and cedars. "2021 Alishan Sunrise Impression Concert" will be held at the Zhushan apron from 5:30 to 7:30. Tourists can enjoy the performance of the orchestra, Tsou singer, and famous singers and wait for the first light of 2021

With a 10-minute walk from Zhushan Observation Deck, you can reach Mt. Ogasawara Observation Deck, which can overlooks mountain chains with a 360-degree panoramic view and admires the sunrise and the sea of clouds. There is a restaurant providing refreshments and breakfasts in a nearby rest area.
